An ongoing project exploring what the relationship between the profession of architecture and rural America should look like.

- first issue coming winter 2024.

  • To practice architecture is to interact with individuals and communities. ‘How’ we practice is inextricably linked to ‘why’ we reshape the built environment of others.

  • The face of rural America is white-washed and is subject to more change than one might assume. Patterns in migration and population will undoubtedly bring even more change to rural communities.

  • The American small town of the West is best understood as a social construct primarily shaped by capitalism. They are wonderful spaces, full of contradictions - we would do well to build an understanding of them in their own right instead of places defined by their absence of urbanism.

  • There is growing need for architectural services in rural communities. It is a need that deserves to be meant with authentic dialogue about the relationship between buildings and social constructs of rural communities prior to simply importing the latest architectural trend.
