OF A PLACE

An exploration of identity.

Of a Place is a curated, multidisciplinary group exhibition that offers a contemporary portrait of Washington State’s varied landscapes—its shifting topographies, ecosystems, and climates.

Taking inspiration from the Hudson River School, which once framed the American landscape as a kind of Eden and linked land to national identity, Of a Place invites a more layered reading. It asks how today’s artists question what it means to belong to—or be shaped by—a place.

Through large-format drawings, paintings, ceramics, installations, textiles, and written works, the exhibition explores how identity and geography intertwine. Themes of ownership, wonder, and the ongoing act of discovery echo throughout—reframing the Pacific Northwest not just as backdrop, but as collaborator, witness, and subject.
